Notes:
- Breeds in marshes from Great Lakes Region up through Canadian Prairies; winters along coasts of US Southeast into northeastern Mexico.
- Almost always found amid reeds or tall grass growing near, but not in, water.
- Formerly called the Short-billed Marsh Wren; name changed to better differentiate.
ID Tips:
- Small, dark wren with pale underparts and tan brow.
- Similar to the Marsh Wren, which is found climbing about through reeds in or at the edge of water. Also has a shorter bill than marsh wren.
- Often heard in wetlands; dry notes, two slow notes then a rapid jumble.
