Notes:
- Resident in parts of Mountain West and U.S. East Coast, summers in areas of northern U.S. and Canadian prairies, Winters in Gulf Coast, Southwest U.S., and Mexico.
- Almost always seen climbing about through reeds at edge of water.
- Highly competitive for nest sites; destroys eggs of other birds, including other marsh wrens.
ID Tips:
- Small, dark wren with pale underparts and white brow.
- Similar to the Sedge Wren, which is found crawling through grasses in marshes, but not in flooded areas or right at the edge of water.
- Often heard in wetlands; burbling, un-musical songs.
